• The process of size reduction is followed by the size separation of the powdered materials.

• Perfect mixing is when each particle of one material lies as nearly adjacent as possible to a particle of the other material.

• The degree of mixing is not normally practicable. The desired degree of mixing depends on the purpose of the products and the objective of mixing.

• Filtration is the process where solid particles are separated from the liquid or gas by passing through a porous medium.

• When solids are present in a very small proportion that is not exceeding one percent the process of its separation from liquid is called clarification.

• The solvent used for the extraction is known as ‘Menstruum’ and the inert insoluble materials that remain after the extraction process is called ‘Marc’.
